Welcome to the home of
ShaluntMirii Canines
With ethics, health and temperament paramount in the puppies that we welcome into this world.
Welcome to ShaluntMirii
I never set out to become a breeder and this is certainly an area I fell into to say the least.
Over the years it is safe to say that I have worked with a lot of dogs on a behaviour and training front, and it soon became apparent that breeding practises had a lot to play in some of the issues that we are now seeing across all breeds. This is down to a number of reasons and I am certainly not painting all breeders with the same brush as there is good and bad amongst all industries.
The more I learnt the more I could see that colour and looks were being put above health and temperament which is quite a scary thought as this is a sentient being that should be in your life for a long time, and new owners have often being left wondering what they have done wrong. Why are they facing the behaviour struggles, or the health implications in such young dogs.
Yet our dogs are the most unhealthy they have ever been. When looking for my own dogs I was finding it difficult to find dogs that had the proper breed stamp that you would expect, a sound temperament and that were health tested. This shouldn't be difficult to find and yet it was proving almost impossible.
So i set myself a mission and ShaluntMirii Canines was born.
"To breed dogs with sound temperament, that are healthy, free from known congenital issues and the most well-rounded, confident individuals I possibly can"
I have a keen interest in Spaniels (mainly cockers and Springers), and poodles and as I have my own little doodles we often have a litter of these in the mix too.
As of May, 2022 after a lot of planning and preparation, ShaluntMirii canines is fully council licensed with Northumberland County Council, holding a 4* rating (the highest I possibly can being new breeders).
About us
Let's start with our own gang of dogs first.
All of my breeding dogs are first and foremost pets first, they are family members and this will never change. If one of my girls or boys doesn't pass their health tests, or if there is a temperament issue that pops up that I think will be an issue further down the line, then they join the ranks of those that are just here as part of the furniture or if better suited to a more 1-1 household, they go to carefully selected guardian homes where I still overlook their care.
All of my adults are given a job, as after all when dealing with working breeds, a sofa life is simply not enough, they want something more to keep their brains ticking over. In the ranks here at ShaluntMirii I have agility dogs, scent work dogs, training demo dogs and a couple trying their paw at gun-dog work. All training that I do, is positive reinforcement, with a game based approach, my dogs are never forced to do anything that they don't want to do and if that means they want an adventure walk and a sofa type of life than that suits me too.
My dogs all live in the home, with 2 designated rooms that are theirs, but with free access to downstairs with a handful who enjoy the luxury of sleeping upstairs with us too. All of our own puppies start upstairs and if that is where they would prefer, then they are welcome to continue this into adulthood.
Does it make them spoilt or 'pack leader', absolutely not!

How I raise my litters
As for my puppies, their development is paramount, as after all I am raising well rounded confident puppies that should be ready for life and that is what I aim for. In keeping with the latest approaches to training, development and socialisation our outline of rearing litters is as follows:
-
All of my litters start in the whelping boxes upstairs in a den type set up. I like quiet for my mummies to be maintained and a calm environment is vitally important for the health and well-being of mum and puppies. They spend their first 3 weeks in the whelping box next to a bed so someone is with them day and night. This allows us to keep track of the little details and make sure everyone is doing as they should.
-
Handling in the first 3 weeks is kept to a minimum, more so with our very attentive mummies as too much handling can spike stress levels, I do little windows of no more then 1 or 2 people handling at this stage, and do weight checks, ESI (early scent indications from day 3) and a 2-3 minute period of secondary handling at some other point of the day from birth. The focus at this stage is usually on mum and making sure she is thriving and able to care for her litter.
-
At 4-5 weeks, the puppies move into the heart of the home and are downstairs in their big pens, which are split between a play area, sleeping area and toilet area. Making sure all are distinctively different allow me to keep puppies clean and help with the toilet training process. Crates may well be in the sleeping area and are never shut, allowing puppies to chill in here on their own accord. Toys that are suitable are always on offer as are chew roots, bullhorns and the likes. Novel enrichment is also included daily from here on in. Getting used to household noises, additional handling, the other dogs and cats all begins after a transition phase and is done gradually up until puppies leave me. Regular grooming is built in as standard from this point especially with our fluffy pups and some spend regular time in the bath!
-
At 6 weeks, my puppies are allowed to explore the garden and play area outdoors, thus allowing them to find their feet and get used to different sights, smells, the weather and whatever else takes their fancy.
-
At 8 weeks, puppies will be shown the outdoor world, go out in the van, possibly a couple of garden centre visits, beach play times to give them a taste of the big wide world. As this is combined with a lot of novel socialisation, most of my puppies are very confident at this stage, with only the occasional one needing a little more TLC.
-
From 10 weeks our puppies are ready for their new homes, if I have any smaller individuals, they stay with us until 12 weeks. There is a couple of reasons I have chosen to keep litters until they are a little older. Firstly, my mummie's are allowed to wean at their own pace (yes, food is introduced at 3 weeks, but I never restrict access to mum as she knows best and you get a much more robust puppy). Secondly, puppies have what are known as fear phases (perfectly normal part of development) and they have a major one at 8 weeks, so I like them to have that one in their safe place before they head off for new adventures.
From a health standard and in keeping with how I raise my own dogs, I do things as naturally as I possibly can with my litters. All of my litters are raw weaned and leave on a varied raw diet, with food to get you settled on.
Worming is done using panacur at 3, 6, 9 weeks and then all puppies are transferred to natural preventatives ready for their new homes. I do not flea treat puppies as standard unless we have them.
Puppies do leave me with a health certificate from my vet as standard, however they do not come with any vaccinations. This decision has come about after extensive research; I am not against vaccinations, I am however against over-vaccination and vaccinating your puppy properly at the beginning is key to a long and healthy life. This is something we discuss in detail with all of our new puppy parents.
All my adult dogs that are used for breeding, are fully health-tested to breed standards, some above and beyond, this making sure I am building a strong base component, coupled with a natural approach to breed healthy individuals. All are here for you to meet and we love getting to know our puppy parents ahead of taking one of our puppies home and you remain part of the family thereafter.
All puppies leave me with full contract in place, full lifetime support with any changes being to your circumstances, your puppy is returned to me, no matter how far down the line it is needed. Puppies also leave with an extensive puppy pack and access to a support group on facebook.
Current Litters
When I breed, I try and fulfil a waiting list ahead of the breeding and am more then happy to speak to prospective guardians well ahead of a litter. I do this for a few different reasons, but mainly just to get to know you. Planning for a puppy is a big del and a lifetime commitment and knowing your breeder as well as seeing if they are the right fit for you is all part of the process.
The other big reason for the get to know you, is also because ultimately that breeder is entrusting part of their legacy into your care and this is not something that we do lightly. Blood, sweat and tears can go into a litter and this is very much a way of life when it is being done correctly and not a make money fast scheme.
I will use this space to announce planned litters and share photos, as well as if we have any puppies here available now. Full details can be requested by dropping us a message or giving us a ring.
All puppies require a £300 non-refundable holding fee to book. We do ask that you come to view puppies, but can do facetime if distance is an issue.
After a lot of deliberation, moving forward any puppies, irrespective of breed that are still here after they are ready to leave will increase in price as they will go through further socialisation, basic puppy training and will have additional care costs to be taken into account.
Puppies still here at 16 weeks will be £1800. They will know all basic behaviour cues, will have begun recall and lead training, will be crate trained, well on their way to being toilet trained, used to all handling and grooming experiences, used to travelling and will go through heavy socialisation. They will be vaccinated with DHP.
Puppies still here at 6-months old and above will be deemed part-trained and will start from £2500. They will have all the above training but will be toilet trained, have better recall and lead skills as well as being able to settle in various public places, and settle in the home. With this option you will also receive 6-weeks distance training sessions to transition the puppy over fully to you and to make sure you are both on the same page.

2025 Planned litters
As I have decided to take a well earned rest over Autumn and early winter, my last planned litter has been put on hold as ultimately that litter i am breeding for me first and foremost.
At present the current litters are planned as going ahead for 2025 with 2 further litters still on the shelf as will decide nearer the time unless I receive alot of interest.
* Torvi Cocker spaniel litter
For anyone that knows Torvi, she throws the chunkiest of cockers and will be the first litter of 2025. this will be her final litter before she retires and she has had a year long break to recover from her previous litter.
There will be 8 wait list spaces open for this litter, with wiggle room for a ninth. Unsure on colours at this stage as i am looking at a couple of little chunky boys to compliment here.
Not KC registered but leave with 5-generation pedigree, low COI, and extensively health tested.
Will be ready early spring 2025.
* Echo Springer Spaniel litter.
This is a well planned litter and will be full relation to my first springer litter back in 2020 (photos can be seen up at the top of this page). I will be opening up 4 spaces on this wait list as I do intend to keep from this litter.
Expecting traditional working stamp, with plenty bone and block colours.
Will be Kc registered, docked and declawed. Extensively health tested.
Ready Spring 2025.
* Albi Cocker spaniel litter
This will be this girls second litter, and she has been a fabulous mum, She is a smaller, stocky build and is only 12kg herself so puppies will generally be on the smaller side.
Unsure on colours at the moment, as looking at a couple of boys to match up with her.
Will not be KC registered but leave with 5-generation pedigree, low COI, and extensively health tested.
Will be ready Spring 2025.
* Luna Springer spaniel litter.
Luna has proven to be a fabulous first time mummy and after alot of searching have found some small enough springer boys to compliment her for a full springer litter.
These will be chunky puppies, traditional springer working stamp of them with block colour or at least heavier in colour.
Will be KC registered, docked, dewclawed, Extensively health tested.
Ready Late summer/Early Autumn 2025.
TBC but in the pipeline.
* Truffle Cockapoo litter.
This girlie is a fabulous mum and will be having a long rest after her last litter. These pups will be full relation to previous litters, and will be a variety of chocolate, chocolate/tans as well as a variety of coat types. previous litters have had solid temperaments and in perfect health with no gut issues or allergies which is becoming a rare find in the cross.
Extensively health tested.
Ready Late summer/Early Autumn 2025.
* Berry Sprocker litter.
This litter is still in the planning stages and will potentially go ahead on the completion of all health tests (clear parents) and given her tiny size, she will be going to a little cocker, making this litter 3/4 cocker, 1/4 springer.
Would be ready Late 2025.
If you are interested in any future litters please don't hesitate to get in touch.
